Alexander J. He moved to Stewart Smith Mid America in 1969 where he started as a broker and completed his tenure as Senior Vice President and Director. From 1984 to 1989 Al became the regional head of Swett & Crawford (a surplus lines brokerage firm) with responsibilities for six offices. In 1989, Al left Swett & Crawford to start his own company in association with C.E. Heath Plc, London. In 1993 the principals bought out Heath’s interest and operate independently.

In 1993, Alex became an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe). He joined AJW in 1994. In 1996, Alex was awarded the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, and in 1998, he was awarded the Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI) designation. In 2001 he became a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter. Alex markets professional liability, directors and officers liability, employment practices, and casualty risks.

Thomas J. Cummane - Vice President Phone: 773-328-0500 ext 121 Tom has accumulated more than 35 years of experience in the insurance business working as a surplus lines broker, reinsurance underwriter and reinsurance broker. Tom established his own surplus lines brokerage business in 1987. In 1989, he merged with AJW and continues to this day with duties in management and brokering.

He joined the company in 2002. Vlad specializes in professional liability, directors and officers liability, employment practices, and casualty risks. He is also responsible for website development and marketing.

He joined the company in 2003 and he focuses on marketing of professional liability, directors and officers liability, employment practices and casualty risks. Andrew earned his Registered Professional Liability Underwriter designation (RPLU) in 2007.

Matt has been working for our firm since 2005 on a part-time basis having general office duties. Matt graduated from DePaul University in spring of 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication. He has accumulated over 10 years of client service experience working for Marsh Insurance and Aon Insurance. John will provide support services for the brokers and he will be responsible for the day to day administrative functions of the entire staff.
